You may remember
that a few year ago Stockton Borough Council rejected an application for a
Travel Lodge Hotel, Harvester Bar and Restaurant on the old Springs site at
Teesside Park.
The reason at the
time was due to it not being on North Shore and that it would have a
"Detrimental impact on the High Street" if it was given.
Now fast forward a
few year, said Council now want to borrow money to develop a site on North
Shore to construct a hotel due to the demand of midweek occupancy in other
Hotels across the Tees Valley.
Now, bare with me I
am going somewhere ... It is either down to lack of long term framework that is
costing the area or its simply down to the fact that the Council believe that
other areas are not of value to invest in, especially if them areas have "Detrimental
Impact on the High Street"
I have said many a
time that the ruling party within Stockton have a one sided view and favour an
area such as Stockton Central over other areas, this seems to be the case. But
let me be clear that the officers and staff of said council are in the most part
brilliant in their handling of duties given to them from the party in control.
Would I like to see
a hotel .. Yes !! Would I like to see the taxpayer cough up the coffers .. No
!! - I think its time for the above mentioned Council to take a long term look
at what the priorities are for Stockton and them other areas.
