Over the past few month I have been super busy with a lot of planning and a lot of paperwork to get to a stage where I am in a position to help others within Thornaby who are struggling to make ends meet.
I have somehow managed to take the partnership from creation to 3 big scale events for young people to a Soup Kitchen in the space of a 20 month and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. Which in my opinion is great news and shows that what I and the Partnership are offering is in demand and that the challenges that were kept for behind closed doors are real and that although Thornaby is a great town with amazing people, when it comes to the harsh reality we would prefer to shut up and put up.
We have families living on next to nothing and some who have been sanctioned but still need a way to feed their 4 children, due to a government contract not being suitable for the modern era. We have young people who have been left behind with no provision or support to get them active. We live in truly testing times and I can't help but wonder what the future holds.
Its my opinion that as a town, as a community we need to pull together and show the support that we are capable of. We also need to vocal and let our voices heard. The silent population that we have in the town are some of the most in need, but often pride gets in the way. It's a weird thing pride, sometimes when help is at hand and support and advice can be given we are not really the type of people who want to be seen getting the support and advice. Maybe its the fear of being branded poor or destitute.
But let me be the first to say, Thornaby has a high level of poverty. Last time I checked it was 37% after housing costs, so the saying that we are all in it together, is in our case almost correct. Lets put our pride to one side and ask for support, without it our situations worsen and health problems arise. I have been through the depression stage and thinking I am no good for any purpose, but I come out fighting and now want to make sure that others don't end up there, it is a dark place and many of us still fighting or given in. But as a town we can fight back and in my view and words "Our community is doing it for themselves"
Lets make sure we are "Always Advancing"
